Godolphin buy makes winning start for Charlie Appleby
Big Evs (IRE), a colt by Oasis Dream, has made an impressive winning debut for trainer Charlie Appleby, giving the European team the perfect start in the 2023 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint at Keeneland on Friday.
Purchased by Godolphin for 165,000 guineas at the Craven Breeze-up Sale in April, Big Evs showed excellent speed from the stalls and made all in the seven-furlong contest, holding off the challenges of Convocation and Epicenter in the final furlong.
Jockey William Buick said: "He's a very straightforward horse and he's done it nicely. We went a good gallop and he kept finding. He's a very good-looking horse and I would say he's got a big future."
Appleby was equally impressed with Big Evs' performance, saying: "He's a lovely horse with a good temperament and he's been straightforward since we've had him. He's been doing everything nicely at home and William gave him a beautiful ride today. He's a horse with a lot of potential and we're looking forward to seeing what he can achieve in the future."
