Mystics Win Wild 89-84 Contest Over Fever

Indiana Pushes Washington In Road Game

The Washington Mystics pulled out an 89-84 victory over the Indiana Fever on Monday night in Indianapolis. Ariel Atkins exploded for a 26-point performance, securing the victory for Washington. The Mystics also received a boost from Elena Delle Donne, who added 18 points and 10 rebounds. The Fever were led by recent first-round draft selection Aaliyah Boston, who had a team-high 20 points and 12 rebounds.

In the first quarter, the Mystics jumped out to an early lead, but the Fever fought back to tie the game at 24-24 at the end of the quarter. The second quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with neither team able to gain a significant advantage. The Mystics made 21 free throws and forced 17 turnovers from the Fever.

Washington took a 47-43 lead into the half and maintained a small advantage for most of the third quarter. However, the Fever came roaring back in the fourth quarter. With just over two minutes remaining, the Fever tied the game at 84-84. Washington answered with a layup by Atkins, before forcing Indiana into four turnovers in the game's final minute.

Caitlin Clark Leads Fever in High-Scoring Affair

The Mystics' victory was their second in a row to start the regular season. The Indiana Fever lost for the second time in a row and is now 0-3 on the season. Although they came up short, Caitlin Clark showed flashes of brilliance, finishing with 30 points. The 6-foot-1 guard is averaging 23 points per contest to start the season.

The Fever also received solid contributions from Breanna Stewart, who had 18 points and 10 rebounds. Victoria Vivians added 16 points. For the Mystics, Atkins led the way with 26 points. Shakira Austin added 14 points off the bench. Elena Delle Donne contributed 25 minutes in her first game back since the 2023 season.

With the win, the Mystics improve to 2-0 on the season, including 1-1 on the road. The Indiana Fever dropped to 0-3 with the loss. Indiana falls to 6-25 all-time against the Washington Mystics.

The Mystics will return to action on Tuesday, June 20, when they host the Dallas Wings. ESPN and TSN will carry the game at 2:00 p.m. ET.
