Mountain West Football Power Rankings After Week 2

Mountain West Football Power Rankings After Week 2

What Happened in Week 2?

Week 2 conference football in the Mountain West was anything but quiet. The biggest story of the week was definitely Utah State's impressive road victory over a Power 5 team in Washington State. The Aggies led by 28 points in the third quarter before holding on for a 26-23 win. With the victory, Utah State improved to 2-0 on the season and sent a shockwave throughout the Group of Five.

Nevada Climbs into the Top 3

Nevada continued its strong start to the season with a 27-20 home win over Idaho State. The Wolf Pack improved to 2-0 on the season, with both wins by at least a touchdown. The Pack’s defense came through with a number of big plays against Idaho State, including two sacks and three tackles for loss.

Quarterback Carson Strong threw for 269 passing yards and a touchdown, while running back Toa Taua rushed for 73 yards and a score. The Wolf Pack will be tested next week when they travel to Eugene, Oregon, to face the Oregon Ducks.

Boise State on Bye

Boise State had a bye last weekend and will return to action this weekend with a home game against UTEP. The Broncos are still looking for their first win of the 2022 season after losing to Oregon State in Week 0.

The Miners are 1-1 after losing to FCS Eastern Washington in their season opener before rebounding last week with a blowout win over New Mexico State. Quarterback Gavin Hardison leads UTEP's offense, while defensive end Praise Amaewhule is one of the best pass rushers in the country.
